#FinallyRyeday Cocktail 01: The Supreme Virtue of Action

It’s our first #FinallyRyeday rye whiskey cocktail blog post! We’re pleased to begin this new campaign featuring a weekly rye whiskey cocktail with a WhistlePig original, “The Supreme Virtue of Action”. This cocktail name comes from a quote in William Manchester’s The Last Lion: Winston Spencer Churchill: Visions of Glory, 1874-1932.

Churchill began each morning with a Scotch and soda that he enjoyed until his lunch hour. This drink is an homage to both the bitter strength and the sweeter side of that cigar-smoking, swaggering, unwavering giant of military intuition.

RECIPE:

1 dash old fashioned aromatic bitters
1/2 oz Campari
1/2 oz Carpano Antica
1 oz WhistlePig Straight Rye Whiskey

Stir these ingredients over ice.

Prepare a chilled glass by rinsing with Islay Scotch whisky and rimming the glass with fresh bacon grease.

Strain cocktail into prepared glass.

Skewer a Maraschino cherry over the glass.

Top with 1 oz of soda, ensuring the soda washes over the cherry to release the syrup into the glass.

Sip responsibly. Enjoy!
