#Finally Ryeday: Satchel Mouth

By January 29, 2016 Recipes - Blog
We believe an extraordinary cocktail is a reward for work well done, and after a month of successful New Years resolutions you deserve to break down and splurge (you’ll lose the last 5 lbs. in February, right?). This creative cocktail from the inventive mind of Sebastian Loeffler comes all the way from the Mandarin Oriental in London, and is a well balanced tribute to Louis Armstrong, known by his closest friends as Satch Mo’ (Satchel Mouth).
Sebastian wanted to expand on the aromas of WhistlePig 10 Year by using Punt e Mes to bring out the sweetness, Dubonnet to capitalize on the aromatics, and Cynar and bitters to balance. It’s best placed somewhere between a Boulevardier and a Manhattan.

Satchel Mouth

  • 4 parts WhistlePig 10 Year Straight Rye Whiskey
  • 1 part Punt e Mes
  • 1 part Cynar
  • 1 part Dubonnet
  • Dash Angostura
  • ¼ part still water

Sebastian was born in Gothenburg, Sweden, a small city where his family worked in the restaurant and wine world. Trying desperately not to continue on the family tradition of working in this business, Sebastian wanted to discover other countries and cultures, and went on to study at the European Business School in Oestrich, Germany. Soon enough, however, he realized he actually loved the food and beverage industry, and decided to further pursue his studies by attending the prestigious Glion Institute in Switzerland, during which he also spent a year at Nottingham University.

Sebastian already had a wealth of knowledge from working in this business since the tender age of 13; having started his professional experience working at Ward Wines in Stockholm, Sweden. Sebastian moved to London and joined Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London, as an F&B Trainee in January 2011.

Sebastian became a permanent employee at the luxury Five star property as Banqueting Head Waiter in January 2012, and continued on to Bar Manager of the Mandarin Bar in December 2014.

Sebastian oversees the running of one of the most beloved hotel bars in London. Through creativity and imagination, the Mandarin Bar has showcased some of the most original crafted cocktails in the city, and was featured on The Graham Norton Show.

In his spare time, Sebastian enjoys spending days on a golf course, as well as discovering and trying new restaurants and bars.
