Design Intern (Seasonal)

Reporting to the Director of Business Development, the Intern is responsible for assisting the Director of Business Development with overseeing the property design and development at WhistlePig Farm & Distillery in Shoreham, VT. Areas of emphasis will include: new facility & amenity development, maintenance of existing design and structure on property, landscape architecture, furniture, signage, and anything that is style and creatively related which enhances the personality and image of the WhistlePig brand.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Director of Business Development to ensure all public areas are “in show” status at all times
  • Participate in the conceptualization process to help define the strategic goals and aesthetic direction of projects
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and designers to plan and execute the projects
  • Collaborate with WhistlePig Whiskey operations team to ensure consistent design standards are met in all areas of the farm and all structures, signage, and any setups are up to visual standards

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Execution of all design related projects- sourcing material, price comparison, vendor selection and budget maintenance
  • Knowledge and ability to read construction document sets, reading floor plans, distinguishing scale, and understanding spatial relationships of structures
  • Scheduling, follow up, and oversight of multiple projects in an efficient and professional manner
  • Administrative duties including purchase orders
  • Maintenance organization and inventory of all fixture, furniture, and equipment assets on property
  • Local sourcing of new and replacement materials for projects.
  • Must understand basic wood and metal finishes, as well as general contracting terms

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Interior design or architectural educational experience required
  • Degree or present enrollment in a design or art field required
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suites and Microsoft Office.  AutoCAD and Revit experience
  • Ability to effectively communicate creative concepts, invention and ideas
  • Highly organized, extreme attention to detail while multi-tasking
  • Hand sketching ability
  • The willingness to take direction and the desire to gain and learn from real-life experience
  • A great eye combined with an awareness of style and functionality in hospitality, architecture, and interiors
  • Experience working with tools/crafting is a plus
